Nigerian man on trial for trying to smuggle drugs hidden in wooden statue into United Arab Emirates

A 26-year-old Nigerian national is on trial for trying to smuggle drugs into the United Arab Emirates.
According to local Arabic daily Al-Ittihad, customs official at Dubai International Airport screened a parcel addressed to the Nigerian man and discovered 223gms of heroin hidden inside a wooden statue.
The Public Prosecution charged the suspect with smuggling drugs and referred him to the criminal court to face trial. In UAE, the law on drug trafficking stipulates a  jail term between 10 to 15 years  and a fine ranging from AED50,000 to AED100,000.
