Colorado's Champions Center was placed on lockdown around 11 a.m. ET after the University of Boulder Police were notified of the armed suspect, the Daily Camera (Boulder, Colo.) reported. Shortly after, gun shots were fired in a stairwell near the lobby area after the suspect failed to comply in putting his weapon down. Police spokesmen said in a news conference the man was killed.
Police announced that the "scene is all clear" but urged students to avoid the Champions Center vicinity as law enforcement further investigates the situation. There were alerts tests scheduled for noon Wednesday, and they were canceled due to the incident.
The Champions Center, located near the northeast corner of the school's football stadium, was opened earlier this year and houses the football program's office and indoor practice facility, as well as offices for other athletic department members and dining facilities.
